As always, it takes a little time to 'feel' my way into the story and the pattern is nearly always the same. I make a great start and the first 20,000 words flow pretty freely. Then, around 30,000 words the doubts beging to creep in and by the time I hit 50,000 I despair that the book will be any good. At around 55,000 words I understand how the rest of the book will unfold and the words come far more easily from there on. So I am delighted to say I have reached 65,000 words today and I'm feeling much happier about the twentieth novel in the series. When it is finished that will mark two decades of writing about Macro and Cato and working with my fantastic editor, Marion.
